Leap Frog Leapster 2 Learning System

It is known that the Leapfrog tag system is for kids who are interested in traditional books, the Leap Frog Leapster 2 Learning System on the other hand is for kids in the new wave. It is a games console with an educational focus.

Leap frog say the idea is edutainment, which is entertainment and education at the same time. Doing all this without the kids realizing it. As opposed to other gaming consoles such as the Nintendo DS where they games involve characters
running around doing nothing, the Leap Frog Leapster 2 is aimed at teaching maths, english and other subjects without them realizing it.

So what is it like? Well it is green and big, the same width as about 5 Nintendo DSs. The screen is not great quality, but works very well for kids. Its touch screen, so it comes with a stylus. It has a number of great features, for instance you can add more games using the cartridge system. For example there is the Sponge Bob Square Pants Game and the Star Wars Game which is exclusive to Leapster.

You can also get an adapter so you can play SD cards, music or even videos for kids to be entertained with. The console comes preloaded with some games too that you can play with no additional cartridges. They have also added a USB socket that allows you to connect it to your computer.

The idea, is one once your kid is done playing they can connect it to your computer and connect to the Leapster world online. Parents can actually check on how your child has done playing the games. It is a great way of seeing if your kid is doing well in maths or whether he is a very good speller. You will also be able to get a report card on a weekly basis, and suggestions on other games. These games will help you increase your child’s skills & weaknesses.

So while the Leap Frog Leapster 2 console itself, is quite basic. The whole online connectivity is very clever. Especially for parents who want to have their children play computer games and at the same time be involved in their learning process. It is very affordable and one of the hottest toys this Christmas.
